Old Razzle Dazzle, Ole

My sister and I recently saw Chicago on Broadway.  She was definitely the right person to see it with because we were both already in love with the movie version so we knew all of the words by-heart.  Roxy Hart was clearly a little older than the others but she was impressively vibrant and lithe, performing splits and such with commanding presence.  My favourite songs were still Cell Block Tango, Cellophane, The Gun, and Razzle Dazzle.

Interestingly, we both noticed and discussed how Billy Flynn’s accent frequently vascillated between suave American and heavy Spanish.  He was a slick-looking Mexican guy, but it’s hard to beat Richard Gere and I’d doubt that he fit the standard profile of a top criminal lawyer from Chicago in the ’20s.  But you can’t say stuff like that around here because everyone gets offended.
