Strike a Karate Kid pose

I finally tricked some buddies into playing my favourite party game, You Robot.  The premise is simple – the scientist tries to make the robot get their body into a certain position, using only a few cards that show body parts and arrows on them, and the audible word “stop”.  Usually you play it as a race between rival pairs, trying to be the first to get their robot into the position.

The fun part is that they’re all interesting and familiar body positions.  Think Karate Kid’s crane kick, Richard Nixon’s peace fingers, or relaxing with your feet up on the table.  Sounds easy, but it’s not.

When the robot finally realises what he’s supposed to be doing, it’s usually cause for laughing and celebration.  We got so into it that we started inventing our own positions and even made 2 robots interact, like a cowboy on a horse, or a couple doing the waltz.  This was the perfect way to spend our final morning after a weekend of cottage gaming.
